A Hundred Things About Me

Good or bad, here they are. No holds barred.

  1. Now on my fourth year of driving, I still finally stopped driving barefoot.

  2. I prefer knowing painful truths.

  3. I seriously don't care about brands (of clothing, bags, shoes); I can wear something worth as cheap as ten pesos to thousands. I get stuff according to style and wearability.

  4. The day before I leave Manila, I usually refrain from going out. And I fall silent. It's transition time from the feeling of being at home to being alone in a foreign country again.

  5. Marriage is something I don't talk about with boyfriends. It's just too futuristic, too assuming that you'd end up together; it's as if you're building a fairy tale. I used to think I'd get married at the age of 25. And then I met Al.

  6. Stopped eating balut about a decade ago when I ate opened one with a chick in it, almost ready to hatch.

  7. In highschool, I have more guy friends than gals. They taught me everything from how guys make "bola" or how they cheat, etc.

  8. For me, any sunset is artistic. The play with colors always makes my jaw drop. Expect me to stare at a sunset for 20 minutes without speaking a word.

  9. The things I like in my omelette are bacon, ham, cheese and mushrooms.

  10. I learned about the existence of public transportation after highschool. (Okay this is embarassing.) Just because I had to take 'em during college. When I was younger I can't imagine how people go about malling or doing their groceries or going to Baguio without a private transpo.

  11. I'm friendly to the unfriendly and doubtful of the uber-friendly.

  12. As a young girl, I thought everybody had bidets in their toilets.

  13. My only celebrity crush was Drew Arellano.

  14. My parents are the best. I used to think they're the most uncool parents for being strict and making us do chores even if we had a maid, but now I understand they've raised us up in a manner I don't think I could match if I have kids of my own.

  15. I started surfin' the net more than a decade ago, when internet rates are more than a peso per minute. I've had accounts from a lot of different sites: EudoraMail, Edsamail, Yahoo, Gmail, Friendster, Multiply, Blogger, Photobucket, cBox, Meebo, Hotmail, AIM, Skype, Statcounter, Peyups, Barrio Alimasag, Buzznet, Bloglines, Flooble, Candymag, Femalenetwork, and a lot, lot more. Some sites are now defunct.

  16. I have broad shoulders, and I think my head/face is too small in proportion to my body frame.

  17. Only in highschool did I know that there's such a thing as MS Word, and that most people use Word for text documents. Way back grade school, I did all my projects in Adobe PageMaker.

  18. I could live without TV...but not without a computer.

  19. Especially when we were younger, me and my family would go hotel-hopping. Like staying at the lobby or coffeeshop for half an hour and move to another. We also stay overnight occasionally. By age 9, I already have favorite hotels. I dislike Makati Shang, by the way, and I think Mandarin's lobby is inappropriate. I love Edsa Shang's pool, Manila Hotel's lunch/dinner buffet, the beds and towels of Diamond Hotel, the old Sofitel's (Grand Boulevard before it was Grand Bou) breakfast buffet...

  20. I love math. I hate history. I'm realistic so I don't fancy what I can't imagine happening right now (i.e., History). So I hate Chem but I love Physics. (How on earth could I imagine molecules combining together and stuff?!)

  21. I used to wear heels all the time...until I realized I'm tall.

  22. Piano was the first instrument I tried to learn but got bored because my teacher would make me play classics. I want to play songs! And then I asked my kuya to teach me how to play the guitar, but I stopped when my fingertips got calloused. I wanted to try violin but I think it'd have the same effect as the guitar: calloused fingertips.

  23. When I say "no," it actually means NO.

  24. "Skully" was one of many names my schoolmates used to tease me with during grade school (not because of Agent Dana Scully on X-Files) coz they said I looked like a skull: big forehead and deepset huge eyes.

  25. The coffee that my mom makes is my favorite coffee. Regardless of the brand, she always makes a good cup of coffee with just the right amount of cream and sugar. Yum!

  26. "Suplada" and "mataray" are the most common first impressions on me. I don't mind. Better they assume I'm that and realize they're wrong than vice versa. ;)

  27. I never really looked forward going with my whole family to mass every Sunday until I couldn't--when I started training in Seoul.

  28. My first crush was a half-American half-Filipino Chinito fair-skinned boy named David in pre-school. We got to be dance partners for a school presentation and he gave me a digital Hello Kitty ring watch (which I can't find now).

  29. Lack of sleep makes me gain weight.

  30. Usually I forget about people's debts. I get surprised when people pay back. Ask my college friends! Haha.

  31. I think I'm too mature for my age.

  32. I met my first real friend on my first year of highschool. We'll be celebrating a decade of friendship on June 2008.

  33. There's something about solving crimes that amazes me. I love reading these types of stories on Reader's Digest, or watching Forensic Files on Crime/Suspense channel, and the likes.

  34. I'm a good liar. You could ask my mom; she says I could do it and look straight into a person's eyes. But then of course, lying days are over. Tryin' to be a good--girl.

  35. Seriously, I thought about going to Law School. But then, I hate memorization so that was instantly erased.

  36. Do you know Victoria Hotel a.k.a. Victoria Court? I've been in one of their rooms. I was probably around 8 then. My parents wanted us not to get a bad impression on motels so we checked in as a family and enjoyed the place just like how we enjoy any 5star-hotel room.

  37. Honestly, I knew I couldn't die without being a flight attendant even for just a single flight.

  38. Made to choose between running for student council president in HS or be in line for a high rank in CAT, I let go of my SC president plans. COCC/CAT was way more fun! ;)

  39. Seldom do I make my bed when I get up in the morning. I don't understand the need to make it when you'd sleep on it again come nighttime.

  40. Every year my family goes to Baguio, and every year we take pictures. I hated it, saying we go to the same places so same backgrounds, same everything. Imagine their surprise when they learned I wanted to be a photographer.

  41. As mentioned, I'd love to be a photographer.

  42. On movies, I usually go for those that could happen in real life. No horror, suspense and fantasy movies for me.

  43. One of my past times when stuck in heavy traffic is creating a word using the three letters of cars' plate numbers. (i.e. DNL = denial)

  44. Possibly one of my most favorite childhood games is Stop, Lady, Look.

  45. My highschool days were much more memorable than college. Probably coz university is so far so we basically shared nothing after school hours; and that we didn't have guy classmates during college.

  46. My favorite season is fall.

  47. Regrets are not my thing. I hate them and I never do. If something bad happens, I know I'd learn from it, so it isn't a regret after all.

  48. I don't believe in courtship. Guys putting their best foot forward so you'd swoon? Then what? Realize later on he isn't who you thought he was? No thanks.

  49. I love only fruits that leave your mouth fresh (I don't know how to explain this.) Apples, pears, watermelon, pineapple, grapes. I don't like atis, papaya, chico... Did you get what I mean?

  50. I despise Apple--Mac, iPhone, iPod, etc. Despite the fact that our first PC was an Apple MacInotsh.

  51. I don't mind spending money on food. It's okay that I don't go clothes/shoes/accessories/gadget shopping, as long as I get good food.

  52. Surprises. Love 'em.

  53. I've stopped drinking alcoholic beverages and I swore I'd never try smoking. And drugs.

  54. Never did I experience playing with the neighbors. We had a backyard and we'd always be there playing with each other; mom and dad even built a swing, see-saw and slide when we were younger; we almost won the debate as to having a pool.

  55. Hug me when I cry, I'll cry more but it comforts me.

  56. I started liking pizza when I was already a flight attendant. I used to hate mozarella for the foul smell that makes me want to throw up. The only pizza I used to eat was Greenwich. My favorite pizza now is Papa John's.

  57. I've tried almost every street food available. My favorite is (pork) isaw.

  58. With the emergence of acronyms in chats, the only ones I'd hate is "TY" for Thank You and "YW" for You're Welcome. Gratitude could never be expressed shortcut. Subsequently, I hate "LUV" in place of "LOVE".

  59. A hard boiled egg's yolk is something I don't eat.

  60. If want to be branded a loser, get your girl a Blue Magic stuffed toy. That's got to be the lamest and most unthought of gift in Pinas, unless your girl actually likes something in BM in particular.

  61. Roses are romantic, but my favorite flowers are pink stargazers.

  62. I used to have a bestfriend in highschool. Until she graduated and told me to find someone else. Felt like a stray dog. From then on I promised I won't have ONE best friend.

  63. I have watched a movie alone. The first one must have been The Perfect Man, starring Hilary Duff.

  64. On hurts: it hurts to have your heart broken by someone; hurts even more to break someone's heart, and it hurts the most pretending you don't when you do.

  65. In senior high, I fell face down doing a pyramid during cheering practice. I didn't go to school for a week, my face looked like I just had a battle with Pacquiao and I damaged my tear ducts.

  66. I'm allergic. To a lot. I started seeing a dermatologist when I was in grade school, thanks to allergies of all sorts.

  67. I classify people in different ways: "cute" is cuddly; "adorable" is huggable; "pretty" is admirable with all its simplicity; "gorgeous" is pretty but kind of made up; "hot" does not exactly mean "sexy"; "sexy" is physical attributes; "beautiful" is inside and out.

  68. I've never been hospitalized. Sometimes I want to experience how it feels like.

  69. 69--I never knew what "sixty nine" meant til after highschool. I think there should be Sex Ed in the Philippines.

  70. My fear would have to be flying cockroaches. I don't care about frogs, snakes, lizards and whatevers, I just hate the flying roaches.

  71. I fall in love easily.

  72. A choir member during my school days, I'm unexpectedly shy when it comes to singing in public. The only time I did was when I sang "Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" at my 18th birthday. ...Until I bought Magic Sing for my family.

  73. I smirk when people use "backers" to get them into a university or a job; I believe in getting in because you deserve it and you're worth it.

  74. The best instrumental/piano piece ever written has to be Canon in D Major by Pachelbel.

  75. Handicap toilet cubicles are the best.

  76. Never raise the tone of your voice nor shout at me, no matter how angry you are. I'm an adult and I am mature, I hear what you say in a normal tone. Or else, you'd hear me gritting under my teeth, "Hindi ako tinataasan ng boses ng tatay ko."

  77. I'm not a jewelry person, but if made to choose one, I'll go for earrings. But I currently wear a necklace and wristwatch coz my boyfriend gave em.

  78. I've tried all of Philippines' mobile phone networks: Globe, Smart, Sun. But not Globe's other network Touch Mobile. And I now maintain my Globe; I also have a Vodafone (for London) and T-Mobile (for USA).

  79. Zits irritate me; I seldom have em so I panic when I get them.

  80. I'm a crybaby. I've mastered crying hard without making a sound. I once cried (for reasons I'm not going to divulge) during a class: I sat on the floor so that the professor conducting his lessons won't see me.

  81. My nose is a softie. Literally, you got to touch it to believe it. My sister says it's as if my nose doesn't have cartillages. It's also very sensitive. I'm instantly Rudolph at the slightest pinch or scratch and cold weather. It's also a good sign that I'm about to cry.

  82. I am friends with my exes.

  83. Chocolates in particular are really what I need when I'm depressed. I'm not a fan of whites and those with nuts. I like em best with something crunchy inside (crispies, wafer, malt balls), or chewy (nougat, caramel).

  84. Never would I apologize if it's not my fault.

  85. I have the messiest hair, and I couldn't care less. I don't want to be a shampoo commercial in the flesh!

  86. I notice guys who wear pink. I like those with a good sense of humor. I appreciate those who put you on the safer side of the road when you walk. I admire those who put family on the top priority. I stick with those who are truthful, the kind who'd say you look horrible if you are horrible.

  87. I want to raise my family in a house my husband and I own.

  88. Peace loving person. Haha! I've never been into any catfight or anything. One time some girl attacked me with cheap parinig stuff and even if she's practically yelling in my ear, I didn't budge. She can make parinig all she wants. When she saw it didn't matter at all to me, she finally called my name, I looked up, and told me in my face what she wanted to tell me. To which I nodded, said "okay," smiled a little, and then went back to what I was doing. The girl walked out. Capital L for LOSER!

  89. I still can't see myself leaving the Philippines for good. :(

  90. You'd most definitely see me wearing either green or red on Christmas day.

  91. My parents would never hinder with my choice of boyfriend/partner. My dad's only advice? Don't be with someone who'd throw plates at you when you fight.

  92. I wore dental braces for my last two years of highschool. One of the most painful things I had to endure, but it was well worth it.

  93. I hate indecisiveness of guys sometimes, especially when they take you out and then he can't decide where to take you? Then the guy'd make ME decide. Nyak! Why ask me out in the first place? Nothing beats a well-planned night.

  94. I watch pageants, but you'll have to kill me to get me to join one. I don't need to have a title to reassure myself that I'm beautiful. (Oh yes, self-confidence baby!)

  95. If you ask me if I'm alright and I frown, then something's not quite right; but if I shrug it off and smile weakly, then something's really bothering/depressing me.

  96. After two years of being in Korea, I finally started eating--and liking--kimchi.

  97. It took me over three months to come up with this list.

  98. If I had a superpower, it would be to know what people are thinking.

  99. My future kids' names (if my future husband won't mind) are: Lawrence, Tamara, Timothy and Samantha. I came up with two names for each gender but it doesn't necessarily mean I want four kids.

  100. The hardest thing to do would be to leave my family behind. But I will, soon. *sigh*
